Theia was a Titan in Greek myth, but astronomers borrowed the name for something rather better — the planet-sized body thought to have struck the early Earth and thrown up the debris that became the Moon. A collision that ended up making something permanent. For a ring with meteorite set into it, there wasn't really a competing option.
