Before it was a spacecraft, a shuttle was a weaver's tool — the little wooden boat that shoots back and forth across a loom, carrying one thread through another until the whole thing holds together. Same word, both jobs. Something that goes out, comes back, and leaves things joined behind it. We named a meteorite ring after it and rather enjoyed that both meanings landed.
